Lighter Than Woman
In Italy, the tradition of multi-generational households still prevails. When grandparents need care, they do not move to homes, but are cared for by the next generation, in the vast majority of cases by their daughters or daughters-in-law. But what happens when these women want to pursue a job other than care work? They hire Ukrainian domestic workers. Christina Norman has created a poetic collage from interviews with Italian families and their employees - so-called ‘badanti’ - that takes us from Ukraine to outer space and via Estonia to Bologna. We had to cancel the planned guest performance of «Lighter Than Woman» in 2020. But this year the production fits even better into the festival theme.
There will be an audience discussion after the show on 13.5.
Estonian Kristina Norman works as a visual artist and documentary filmmaker, often creating site-specific installation works that combine both activities. In 2022, she is the one of the two artists representing Estonian at the Biennale di Venezia.
Relaxed Performance
The performance on 14.5. is a Relaxed Performance. The audience space is not completely darkened. There are no loud noises. The audience is allowed to go out and come back in during the performance. The audience is not expected to sit completely still. Babies and children are welcome. There are some alternative seating options (wedges, cushions, etc.) available by the entrance.
The theatre shop is available as a quiet room before, during and after the performance. The room is otherwise used as a library and has a window front. The lower windows are covered with posters.
The performance lasts 1 hour and 30 minutes, there is no interval.
